Depression is a mental disorder that manifests itself through symptoms like depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy, and poor concentration. In a severe case of depression, the individual suffering from depression may resort to committing suicide. These problems can become chronic or recurrent and lead to substantial impairments in an individual’s ability to take care of his or her everyday responsibilities.

Depression is of 2 types: The sad kind, also known as major depression, or dysthymia; and manic depression or bipolar illness, when feeling low and depressed alternates with being wild and reckless.

It is preferable to visit your family doctor as he will be aware of your previous medical conditions and medical history. The first thing you should do if you suspect that you may be depressed is visit your family doctor for a thorough checkup. If you are unable to or maybe embarrassed to visit your family doctor, any other general physician will serve the same purpose. There should never be any embarrassment or apprehension when coping with this illness.

Some other severe medical conditions can cause depression symptoms, such as vitamin and mineral deficiencies, female hormonal changes and thyroid conditions. So an individual should be absolutely sure by before taking any kind of medication and self medicating.

The family doctor or other physician you visit, will begin his diagnosis by asking you a series of questions. Questions that you may be asked include:

What are the symptoms that lead you to believe you may be suffering from depression?

How long has it been since you’ve had these symptoms?

How severe are your symptoms?

Have you had these symptoms before?

Have you been treated for this illness before?

If yes, what treatment was given and which worked the best?

Do any of your family members suffer from depression?

If yes, were they treated for depression and which treatments worked best for them?

Have you used drugs or consumed alcohol recently?

Have you been thinking about death or suicide recently?

There is no current laboratory test that can be used to diagnose depression. Depression is diagnosed based on your reported symptoms, signs that your doctor observes during the interview, your medical history and your family’s medical history. Depression occurs in persons of all genders, ages, and backgrounds.

It is very important that the family be supportive through this difficult time. The family needs to extend their love and affection and most importantly their support towards the person suffering from depression.

Facts relating to depression :

Depression is quite a common illness, affecting approximately 121 million people worldwide.

Depression is among the leading causes of disability worldwide.

Depression can be reliably diagnosed and treated in primary stages.

Fewer than 25 % of those suffering from depression have access to treatment.

Family plays an important role in the treatment of depression. In conclusion, depression like most illnesses can be cured, only if it is detected in time and is treated.

Life is stressful enough for all of us without having to suffer from some kind of anger disorder on top of everything; but for many folks, that is the case. They have a hard time controlling their anger in stressful situations and as a result, suffer with other physical and mental ailments as a result of those disorders that cause even more problems.

You could be suffering from some sort of anger disorder if you get angry on a regular basis by yelling and screaming at your family and friends, or shouting matches with your co-workers. Name calling, ridiculing, blaming and more aggressive types of actions like huffing, bullying, door slamming, and finger pointing are all part of the picture.

Another side of an anger disorder could be that of total anger suppression, where you never get angry at all and keep everything locked up inside. The trouble with that is that you will build up to the point internally that you will eventually explode and say and do things you normally would not. And your health suffers from this kind of activity: you may suffer from depression as a result, or are tired all the time because of the force needed to hold all that anger in all the time. Also, your immune system will be affected and you will begin to feel sick a good share of the time that will eventually progress into more serious afflictions.

Another type of anger disorder is that where the person with the disorder is addicted to anger and rage and enjoys the good feeling they get whenever they express that rage so much, that that expression becomes an addiction—-a compulsive-addictive pattern. This will happen over and over again, and quite often this disorder is the result of unresolved grief.

Passive-aggressive behavior is a common term in use today that all of us have heard of and recognize. This is a very common type of anger disorder and manifests itself on an unconscious level, usually; where it is referred to as “sideways anger”. This involves teasing another person unmercifully, or kidding someone to the point of tears; using humor as a weapon and with this disorder, you always have a victim. Sarcasm is used, cynicism abounds, and the sufferer will unleash his anger at the victim sometimes by making a statement to the victim in the form of a loaded question: (ex) ” You’re not really going to wear that dress, are you?”

Another type of anger disorder that manifests itself all too often in today’s society is that of intermittent explosive disorder; an actual diagnosed disorder where the sufferer becomes so out of control with his anger that he goes off the deep end, or over the top. The anger and rage are so out of control that they do not match the situation, and quite often can lead to dire consequences.

We all feel anger and rage sometimes when our lives and the people around us pressure us to the point of no return; but if we are not suffering from an anger disorder, we usually just vent the anger in a constructive way and get on with the business at hand. That is not the case for people who suffer from these disorders, and unless they get the help they need to control their impulses; their lives will always be plagued with outbursts, social alienation, and physical discomfort.

Everyone knows that the type of hypnosis that Milton Erickson developed is a wonderful thing.

by Bobby Smith

Everyone knows that the type of hypnosis that Milton Erickson developed is a wonderful thing.

Yet, since when did Ericksonian Hypnosis become a part of The Art of Influence and Persuasion? How exactly did a form of therapy get turned into the best form of Mind Control the world has ever seen?

Well, it all goes back to the official birth of the male seduction community. One man thought he came up with the brilliant idea of trying to adapt the forms of Ericksonian Hypnosis to seduce women. The basic idea was to use the Ericksonian language patterns that were used to hypnotize people in clinical setting to hypnotize women for the purposes of seduction.

As everybody knows, this concept of using therapeutic hypnosis to seduce women failed, but this doesn’t mean that a HUGE fad didn’t begin. Hundreds upon hundreds of certified Ericksonian Hypnotist came out of the work work with all kinds of “secrets” that anyone could use to get anyone to do anything.

This shift in the mind control industry led to the invention of several other styles of hypnosis that were called “conversational” or “covert”. Yet no matter how these new styles of hypnosis were entitled, they simply didn’t enable anyone to control anyone’s mind.

Why is this true? Because the hypnosis that Milton Erickson invented in a clinical setting requires a clinical setting to survive in. If you take a shark out of the ocean, what happens? The same thing occurs when Ericksonian is removed from its clinical context–it’s dead.

It’s also too bad that there are hypnotist out there who are greedy for money to the extent that they have “sold their souls” just to make gobs of money by repackaging Ericksonian Hypnosis into a manipulation machine that it was never intended to be in the first place.

So the male seduction community doesn’t use language patterns anymore because the men who attempted to do so became a laughing stock. The attempt to use Ericksonian Hypnosis outside of a clinical setting was a complete failure.

The successful forms of seduction, mind control, and persuasion revolve around social strategies and the advanced comprehension of language patterns.

by Jane Thisk

Pulling out hair might seem like a weird habit, but the truth is that around two percent of the population also do this. Pulling your hair from any area of the body is known as trichotillomania (or trich), which is a disorder causing you to pull out your own hair.

Trich can have terrible effects, both physical and emotional, for those who suffer with it. Here are a few things to think about if you want to stop.

1) Find the Cause:

There are many common causes of trichotillomania:

* A method of dealing with stress, *Being bored, *Experiencing some sort of trauma during childhood, * Diet, *Being tired, and more.

The more that you are able to find out about the reasons for pulling your hair, then the easier it will ultimately be to improve things.

2) Finding Ways to Deal With Stress:

No matter what the underlying cause of your trich, learning how to handle stress will help you to handle your hair pulling.

Learning to handle stress better is a lot easier said than done, but in time you’ll get better and noticing the kind of stress that can trigger trichotillomania. You should try to talk about them with family and friends, and you might even benefit from counselling.

3) Drugs:

Taking drugs is not going to magically cure your trich, unfortunately. So don’t just rely on your doctor. He or she may not even understand the condition fully – and could even prescribe Prozac which is unlikely to work. Try to use the other methods mentioned here.

4) Hypnosis and Meditation:

These are just two examples of alternative therapies that can help you cure hair pulling. They help for a number of reasons:

* They can help you to relax, * They can help to clear your mind of all that stress, * They can help to stop you from blaming yourself for your pulling, * And they can help you to understand yourself a little better.

5) Accepting Trich: You can put yourself in the very best position to stop pulling out hair when you accept this as part of you, and that there are many other people who also do it.

About the Author:

I’m a 21 year old girl who has had trichotillomania since the age of 10. I found that what really helped me to understand it was to blog about pulling out hair, at the same time as raising awareness however I can, finding a trichotillomania cure, and help people if I possibly can.

by John Laney

Because there are many kinds of depression symptoms, you may need to see a doctor. Dysfunctional depression, where you don’t have the energy to go to work or get out of bed, needs professional help, and you can get quick relief.

But most common forms of depression are not severe. You can function, you just may feel “bad” emotionally and physically at times. Hopeless, tired, unhappy, socially isolated. These types of symptoms are more normal for depression.

Fortunately, common depression symptoms can be cured or significantly reduced often within three days with a nutritional remedy. You may even notice uplifting relief within 24 hours.

There are several simple nutritional changes that you can try for some immediate depression relief. The first and most powerful is to cut refined white sugar completely from your diet.

Refined white sugar is the culprit in many forms of common depression. Here’s how: when you eat a candy bar, the sugar shoots your blood sugar levels through the roof. Your pancreas produces extra insulin, and after 45 minutes or so the insulin clears too much glucose from the blo9od, caysing low blood sugar.

Here’s the thing most people don’t understand. Depression symptoms like dark mood swings, low energy, and feelings of emptiness can be caused by low blood sugar. When the brain doesn’t have enough glucose (or too much) it causes symptoms.

Now, low blood sugar is caused most often by refined white sugar. Refined white sugar hits the bloodstream with so much glucose that it is like an attack, we overproduce insulin to counter it, and the insulin we produce actually clears too much glucose out of the blood stream, and then we don’t have enough to properly fuel the brain, causing the common symptoms of depression.

So a simple fix for many common depression symptoms is to simply cut out refined white sugar. Try it for just three days and see how you feel. You can still have sweets, but sweeten things with stevia, which doesn’t cause insulin to be released. There’s more nutritional help for depression symptoms, but this should be one good place to start.

by Spencer Gabato

Is it so difficult to meditate? Can’t you reach the meditative states of your brain and maintain it for some time? Meditation is very healthful but difficult to achieve. It can take weeks or months of practice before it becomes easy for you. Brainwave entrainment though can help you achieve the meditative state rapidly.

When we are relaxing, daydreaming or listening to a monotonous lecturer, our brainwaves can go to the lower meditative states. This is not the ideal meditative state though because the mental chatter, which is best toned down to benefit from meditation, is still coming strong. The great storehouse of knowledge and creativity of the unconscious mind may not be available to the conscious awareness because of this mental chatter.

A common technique to achieve the meditative state is to close your eyes and notice every sensation you feel when you inhale and exhale. Notice the air passing into your nostrils. Notice it enter your lungs. Notice how your lungs and diaphragm expand. Notice also everything you feel when you exhale. That is one good way of eliminating the mental chatter, you occupy your mind with a few thoughts.

Vocalizing a simple sound can bring you to a meditation level like the famous ‘OM’. Inhale and while you exhale you say the word ‘OM’ and feel the vibration in your vocal cords. Repeat this till you get to the meditative state.

Meditation needs practice and the goal is to tame the mental chatter as to let the messages from the unconscious surface to conscious awareness. With lesser negative thoughts which accompanies the mental chatter, the subconscious mind can perform better in managing the various bodily functions which it is responsible for. This means better health and lessens the stress.

By listening to sounds created with brainwave entrainment, the brain follows the frequency of the sound producing the targeted brain wave frequency. A well advertised brainwave entrainment is binaural beats but it requires headphones to make it effective.

Binaural beats, monaural and isochronic tones can provide you with brainwave entrainment. The use of headphones is advised to make the tones standout from the external noise which could disrupt the entrainment process.

Isochronic tones are by far more effective than the others. Depending on the tone’s design, you can reach the alpha, theta or delta brainwaves quicker. You just listen to it and after several minutes, your brain will generate the desired brainwave frequency and let you stay there for a longer period of time.

Using isochronic tones or other brainwave technology, a person can achieve the desired meditative state of the alpha and theta waves in a matter of minutes. There are persons though who need to use it several times before they can reach a desired entrainment.

Practice meditation to become more creative, have more focus and concentration, be stress free and live a more joyful life. Brainwave entrainment can make it easier for you to achieve the meditative state.

Headaches in any type are always very painful to the sufferer. However, some headaches, such as migraines, for example, can cause even more problems than just a headache. These problems could be sickness, sensitivity to light and a banging pain in the head. Sometimes the headache is felt on one side of the head, and other times you can feel the pain on both sides of your head at the same time.

The actual causes of migraine headaches has not yet been found, although there are a few theories why people experience migraine headaches. The most common theory is that a change in the blood flow within the brain is one of the triggers that causes migraine headaches. Another theory about migraine headache is that it could possibly be caused by pain sensing chemicals called neuropeptides.

Many medical professionals think that neuropeptides ease the muscle that surrounds the cranial blood vessels. This relaxation causes the blood vessels to dilate. The relaxed blood vessels increase the flow of blood and other cranial fluid to the brain. This increase in fluids is thought to be the cause of migraine headaches.

These cranial fluids are the reason for swelling, pain, sensitivity, tissue and blood vessel swelling during the time of the migraine headaches. Some people think that the aura that is sometimes seen during a migraine headache is caused by the constriction of the blood vessels that became dilated during the beginning phase of the migraine headache.

Another theory as to the causes of migraine headaches has been associated with the genetics of inheritance. These theories state that a child of migraine sufferers will have a 50% chance of having migraine headaches too.

The chances of inheriting migraine headaches become even greater if both parents are known to suffer from this painful type of headache. Should both parents be known to have frequent migraine headaches the chances of the child inheriting migraine headache symptoms is about 70%.

Even though some professionals are persuaded that genetics plays a big role in migraine headaches, the genes that are considered to be the causes of migraine headaches have not been identified or even isolated yet. When we start to experience migraine headaches the only warning signs that we may expect to receive are a throbbing pain in the temple area and slight nausea.

As the symptoms of your migraine progress, the pain of the headaches become much worse. Unfortunately, since the causes of migraine headaches have not been discovered and we dont know what triggers these attacks, there are no medications to cure these headaches yet.

Meditation Cds and mp3 tracks are getting very popular and you can see why. They allow us to fit the benefits of meditation into our busy lives and with virtually no effort.

Stress is a major cause of lost work days and it is linked to physical as well as psychological illnesses. In these uncertain times, it is all the more important to that we are seen as being on top of our jobs.

Meditation can be a great way to wind down from the pressures of life but it takes up time that few of us have. Plus, being under stress in the first place makes the calming meditative state difficult to achieve.

But technology has come to our rescue with meditation audio tracks. Available either on CD or as mp3 downloads, they can make meditation quick and easy.

They use binaural beat technology. You listen through headphones as a different frequency is applied to each ear. This causes your brain to generate electrical signals at a frequency which is the difference between them.

This process is know as entrainment and has been proven effective over many years. You are guaranteed to reach deep meditative levels that could take years to achieve by traditional means.

It is a pleasant experience due to the masking of the tones by music or relaxing sounds. You can pay attention to these or mentally tune them out if you choose. Take some time to be with your own thoughts.

Meditation mp3 and CDs come in different lengths and prices. Some are designed to deal with specific issues. Deep meditation is available at the touch of a button. Relaxation is quick and easy.

What are the similarities and differences between Christian and Secular Counselors? The most common similarity seen in both types of counselors is their desire to help people and make a change in the world.

Another similarity of both Christian and secular counselors is that they want to help their clients overcome their problems, make it through a crisis, handle grief, get better overall mental/physical health, and become a well-adjusted individual. Christian counselors take it one step further and help he individual find meaning and joy in their life by helping them form a closer relationship to God. Christian Counselors believe that the person cannot be fully healed without first developing a strong relationship with Christ.

Christian Counselors focus on the person as a whole, the acknowledgment that people are spiritual beings that sets Christian counselors apart from secular counselors.

Psychological constructs, theories and ideas and most often used by secular counselors to explain an individuals problem as well as the root of their being. Whereas Christian counselors first determine in what areas of the individuals life they are failing to walk with God. Only after understanding this will the Christian counselor integrate some secular counseling techniques in order to improve the individuals Christian walk.

Christian counselors believe that any problem an individual is having can often be explained in terms of their failure to comply with the life guidelines in The Bible, or failure to submit to Gods will.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” This scripture provides a code of conduct for Christian counselors. Every aspect of their practice must line up with this scripture, otherwise they are working against God.

If you are a believer of the Bible, if you trust its word, regardless of rather you are catholic, Baptist, Pentecostal, or any other denomination or religion; a Christian counselor can work for you because they use the word as it is written, no exceptions.

The practices of secular counselors are always changing. As new research comes out and new studies are done they have to alter their practice. Their services are just that, practice, you are basically their guinea pig. There intentions are not malicious and certainly many people have found great success in secular counseling, it is important though that you remember there is no specific formula for your treatment it is all trial and error. In contrast, Christian counselors practice based on the bible, which has been around for thousands of years, and has remained, mostly unchanged (excepting the differences in translations).

A counselor who is licensed by the state is told by the state what morals they have and what moral values they are allowed to impose on their patient. Morals are important to most of us; even agnostic and atheist individuals have morals. According to the state a counselor has to report certain moral dilemmas such as murder, suicide, threats etc. Other moral issues such as abortion and divorce the counselor is not allowed to say anything one way or another. According to the state every choice that the individual makes is their own, there are no universal moral guidelines. The completely ignore the fact that immoral decisions lead to a hindered spiritual being.

Have you heard about the power of prayer? Studies have shown that prayer works, no scientist is able to explain what they refer to as a supernatural phenomenon, but it is certainly there none the less. People that pray live loner, are healthier, overcome more sickness and chronic illness, have fewer mental health problems, and a generally more prosperous happy people in general. Prayer has been proven to be more effective than counseling, and medicine combined!

Finding a Christian counselor can be a little bit of a challenge. It is a challenge I highly recommend you take; rather you are seeking treatment for yourself or a loved one the difference that a Christian counselor can make as opposed to a secular one will last a lifetime.
